Postmenopausal Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a skeletal disease where the bones of the human body become brittle and frail. Due to zero symptoms of the development of osteoporosis and osteopenia, a diagnosis is not confirmed until an individual experiences a fall or fracture. Bone is considered a living tissue and is remodelled throughout our lives- meaning there is formation of new bone at one site and resorption of old bone at another site. Osteoporosis creates an imbalance of this system, resulting in excessive bone resorption and inadequate formation of new bone. However, exercise-based rehabilitation has shown to stimulate bone osteogenesis in osteoporotic patients, as well as improve muscle mass and balance to reduce the risk of fall-related fractures. While we recommend ongoing individualised Exercise Physiology to manage Osteoporosis, we currently run a ‘6 Week Introduction to Osteoporosis and Exercise’ Course where we target the below goals:

Main Goals of Osteoporosis Exercise Physiology

  1. Maintenance of Bone Mass- Dynamic weight-bearing loading to stimulate bone formation
  2. Increase Muscular Strength- Functional strength rehabilitation plan.
  3. Mobility and Balance- Reduce the risk of falls and to encourage joint mobility.
  4. Individual Lifestyle Goals- SMART Goal to be determined by the individual based on their lifestyle.

Post-Natal Return to Running Program

Running is an exercise that many women enjoy and often miss after pregnancy. However, as a result from pregnancy and birth, the pelvic floor, gluteals and lower body muscles are weakened as a result and have changed position. Often when there is no strengthening, women find it difficult and painful to run. That’s why we created the ‘16-Week Return to Running Program’.

So women can run confidently, correctly and care free!

I couldn’t recommend Matisse enough! Took the time to listen to every facet of my medical history and was able to make me understand what was happening and how it can be improved. Her kind nature and enthusiasm about helping people makes sessions incredibly fun and personalised. I leave my sessions feeling accomplished and confident in myself! The facilities and vibe are exactly what I have been wanting and with Matisse’s expertise I am excited to see the improvements in my overall health as well as my specific medical needs.

Emma Jalalaty

Matisse impresses me with the care and professional approach to my personal aims and objectives and over a period of sessions she devised a suitable programme for me. I particularly enjoy her warm smile, friendly demeanour and positivity. Whilst some of the sessions are hard work her constant encouragement makes it all worthwhile. The excellent gym equipment and friendly environment is a further encouragement for me.
